how to be like a cool, hip fisherman
the following post is not intended to offend any real-life grisly fishermen, because i'm scared of you
when the fisherman aesthetic popped up on our collective radar — touted as the *new* coastal grandma, for a quick moment it took me by surprise because i sort of feel like that’s SO ME. i could finally be considered cool!
aside from the whole fishing aspect of a fisherman, i love being on a boat, nautical themed everything, i eat lots of raw seafood and i wear lots of stripes so i guess this means i’m somewhat of an expert! i mean, i may not be a fashion expert but i still totally get the look!
and also side note : at summer camp in maine when i was 11, i totally did fish.
i’ve always been obsessed with martha’s vineyard and maritime everything, but what’s really weird is that i passed it onto my child! since birth, arlo’s longest phases were little mermaid & under the sea anything, his love of crabs and then that evolved into a love of sharks & jaws. COINCIDENCE? DOUBTFUL.

so i thought it would be fun to put together a little guide on how to achieve this look (or if you’re like me, persona!) this post might seem like satire, but the recommendations are totally seriously recommended.

now, shall we drink every time i write the word fisherman?

ok, so here is how to nail fisherman-core!
wear a barn jacket or a puffy coat — if you scroll pinterest you’ll notice most fishermen in chore coats with lots of pockets because they must need lots of storage space for like fish hooks and stuff. if you’re a mom, then you also need them for snacks and hair clips!
i have the sezane denim will jacket and i can store lots of children crap in those giant pockets! (i sized up one size for a little roomier fit because fisherman don’t wear tight clothes)

carry a big ass tote bag — another convenient item for moms, a tote bag with lots of pockets for all their like, bait?
*i know fishermen wouldn’t typically wear a toile bag but toile is very new england to me and we’re not being literal here people.

keep those feet caszh (sp?) — i’ve had the jelly fisherman sandals for at least a year now and they’ve held up so great! plus they look cute with socks.

hats on your head + scarves on your neck (if you can pull that kind of thing off) — if i dared to tie a little scarf around my neck i feel like i would never hear the end of it lol, but it sure looks cute with a simple outfit on pinterest girls!

stripes and sweaters and denim oh my — while in the past i’ve gotten dressed and changed if i felt a little too maritime themed, i’m done with that negative ‘tude and i’m embracing it now! who cares if i look like i’m in … moby dick! (all i could come up with i’ve been writing this post for far too long now)

other than that — drink black coffee out of a cool enamel mug. carry old bay in your giant chore coat pocket. collect vintage nautical flags and buoys! never get food poisoning from oysters! that’s really it, so simple! so cool!
thanks for reading, i’ll take requests for future advice posts if you have any ideas because this was my one idea!
